Musculo-Skeletal Therapy

A combination of techniques that bring freedom and stability to surrounding tissues, helping to reduce muscular imbalances that may affect Chiropractic adjustments and chronic pain.

Benefits of Musculo-Skeletal Therapy:

  • Reduced pain.
  • Improved range of motion.
  • Improved muscular freedom and function.
  • Improved skeletal stability, which improves the effectiveness and long-lasting nature of Chiropractic adjustments.
  • May help relieve headaches and other acute pain.
  • Improved stress response.

The Technique

Throughout the years, Dr. Storkan has found that many neck and back problems, as well as other health problems, often have a muscular component. Several years ago, he learned Trigger Point Therapy, as per Dr. Janet Travel, and has used it ever since. After doing an adjustment, he will almost always do some trigger point therapy on the tight muscles surrounding the problem area, as he has always found that this, in combination with the adjustment, calms the problem area much more effectively.

After the muscle work, Dr. Storkan will follow up with a unique vibration unit that very effectively stimulates circulation to the area. Dr. Storkan also learned “Touch For Health” many years ago, which is a layman’s program for learning how to muscle test and balance various structural muscles. Dr. Storkan used to teach the technique for several years before launching into Chiropractic, but although he no longer teaches it, he still uses the technique on several patients which, by getting the muscles to function more effectively, helps to stabilize the joint and reduce the pain.

Side-Effects

Sometimes trigger points can be very sore, and since he is, in essence, irritating them in order to relieve the tension, they can remain sore for a short period of time after the treatment.

Contraindications

This technique is not recommended after recent injuries or other issues that may cause hyper-inflammation.
